If you love to try out American food in various restaurants, the COVID-19 pandemic that has limited our visits to our favorite restaurants might have left you no choice but to try your favorite restaurant dishes at home.
The good news is that it won’t cost you an arm and a leg to make the restaurant foods you love in your home kitchen. All you have to whip up are a few ingredients, including some love to prepare the dishes for yourself and your loved ones.
Here are three simple American dishes that you can try for your next meal.
1. Onion Rings
Are you an avid fan of the recently ended The Big Bang Theory Tv show? Then you might know that onion rings are one of Sheldon’s most favorite dishes. And no one touches Sheldon’s onion rings, lest they compromise the integrity of every onion ring!
Onion rings are an energy-dense food, meaning that you can quickly get the much-needed dash of calories to replenish your body after a long period of starvation or intense energy depletion. They are an excellent alternative for your other favorite dish – the French fries.
Eatthis.com tells us a little more about onion rings:
“Ah, the onion ring, a classic substitution for the French fry. The earliest recipe dates back to 1802 with John Molland’s cookbook The Art of Cookery Made Easy and Refined. His recipe called for fried onions with Parmesan cheese. The next recipe did not follow until 1910 in the Middletown New Daily Times. It’s interesting how such a popular side dish today took a little over an entire century to gain popularity upon its inception!”
2. Peanut Butter Sandwich
Peanut butter sandwich is an excellent meal to try in 2021 if you are not allergic to peanut butter. The good thing with this dish is that you can tweak it in your own ways by adding some variations such as jelly and ripe mashed bananas.
CNN Travel has this to say of peanut butter sandwiches:
“Everybody — except those afflicted with the dreaded and dangerous peanut allergy and the moms who worry sick about them — loves a good peanut butter sandwich… Peanut butter is an American mainstay, often paired with jelly for that lunchbox workhorse, the PB&J. For a rocking alternative, try peanut butter sandwiches the way Elvis Presley liked them: with ripe mashed bananas, grilled in butter.”
3. Hamburger
How could we leave out one of America’s most loved foods? The hamburger is a perfect dish to try out at home due to its versatility, as you can always customize it with different food items to please your taste buds.
Applyboard.com identifies the hamburger as a highly customizable dish:
“From chicken to ground beef, the hamburger is another “choose your own adventure” dish which allows you to customize your sandwich with a wide variety of toppings such as pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, ketchup, cheese, and even potato chips!”
While you can quickly prepare any of these meals at home, you can always enjoy a good treat in various restaurants when on the move or if you don’t have much time on your plate to prepare the dish yourself.
