Shogun was founded in 1980 by Bruce Kanenobu, with the first location opening in Pasadena, and thanks to its delicious dishes and unique approach, became an instant hit. The next two decades saw the chain expand operations, and it continues to this day. The 2000s saw the first Shogun Kobe open in San Diego on June 2000, and three years later on June 2003 opened in La Verne.
The following year Shogun opened a branch in Corona called Shogun Kitchen, a fast causal diner. As a testament to its growing popularity, new locations were then opened in Temecula, San Marcos and Corona in 2006. Each location has its own unique features, but they all share some common items on the menu like Tappan-Yaki Tuna, Tappan-Yaki Salmon, and combination dinners like steak and chicken, filet mignon and lobster as well as the Shogun Special (Steak, Chicken & Shrimp).
