Back in 1921, when railway trains and red cars were gaining popularity, Fred and Grace opened their first tiny dining car but made it bigger as they’ve noticed how cramped the initial restaurants were. Serving delicious homemade pies and in 1927, they’ve added prime cut and perfectly aged steaks, which became an instant hit among their patrons and customers. Through the years, the restaurant was able to maintain it’s comfortable and homey ambiance with the promise of great food, making it one of the best places to eat in California.

Today, while Pacific Dining Car remains to offer simple yet mouth-watering dishes, they are now offering breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, late night shows, desserts, and meals for special occasions like their famous Special Thanksgiving menu. With superb appetizers like the crab cakes and shrimp cocktail, entrees that feature duck confit salad and filet mignon Caesar salad, and their one-of-a-kind prime beef menu. Their fantastic and savory medallions of beef, slow-cooked short ribs, and high noon cowboy steak makes customers keep coming back for more.
One of their most interesting offers is the afternoon tea, which Pacific Dining Car serves in between 3:00 to 5:30 in the afternoon every day. A collection of high-end tea like the Egyptian chamomile and white tip jasmine, all impeccably organic, makes everyone wonder how a place that serves delicious steak can also provide wonderful British iconic drinks.
